WEDDINGS
To those who are considering a Christian Marriage at St. Thomas:
Congratulations on your engagement and upcoming marriage! We hope that not only your wedding, but your marriage will be everything you want and hope it will be.
THE CHRISTIAN WEDDING
In the United States, a marriage is a civil contract. When a Pastor performs a marriage he or she acts as an agent of the State. The Church, therefore, does not marry anyone in a legal sense.
The Church, however, believes in Christian marriage and is concerned with this aspect of the relationship. The wedding service is seen, therefore, as a worship service. It is to be an expression of the couple’s commitment to Jesus Christ and his relationship in their lives. Couples who come to Saint Thomas to be married, should be active in expressing their commitment to Christ.
If you decide to get married at St. Thomas, we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible so that a first appointment can be arranged with the pastor, and we can begin making plans for your wedding together. At this meeting, the Pastor will counsel you and seek opportunities for an understanding of Christian marriage and the wedding service. It is at this meeting that a date is confirmed for the service and a more detailed description of specific policies and procedures concerning building use, fees, behavior, flowers, music, etc. will be explained. Following this meeting, the Pastor will meet with you, as a couple, two other times to plan the service and work out further details.
In Christ’s Love,
Pastor(s)
